In what can only be described as “A Doozy”, DowntownFortWorth.com’s infamous annual letter-hunting contest, known and loved by many as both a drama-inducing local newspaper journalist bridge-burner as well as enabler of self-guided tours where entrants become hypnotized in their search of signage obscurities, the 10th installment promises to raise the bar in titillating fashion.
“Sure, it’s more challenging than ever, but the prize haul will justify all that time spent scrutinizing downtown’s vast array of fonts and bevel-styles,” explains Robert McKee, chief provocateur of Downtown Fort Worth.com’s Game and Wildlife Division.
Who knew the best endorsement a downtown establishment could ask for would come from not the Dallas Cowboys but… Pittsburgh Steelers? Pete’s, the dueling piano bar upstairs from The Library bar at 6th & Houston, has been mentioned by name by a myriad of sports networks and news websites due to a surprise visit and serenade by Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Tuesday.
It is no surprise that one of the three songs in heavy rotation at Pete’s Piano Bar on Houston & 6th, Piano Man (the other two being Brown Eyed Girl and Tiny Dancer, of course), are making national headlines as TMZ has released cell-phone video footage of Ben Roethlisberger and a few of his offensive linemen — who, as the AFC team are staying in downtown Fort Worth for this weekend’s Super Bowl — drunkedly merrily singing the Billy Joel classic Tuesday night. Twelve years online deserves the unveiling of a new game, doesn’t it? Presenting our new Pick Six game! You are given one of three categories, “Street Names in Downtown Fort Worth”, “Downtown Restaurants of the Past”, and “Television Shows or Movies Filmed in Downtown” — chosen at random when the game loads, though periodically we will be adding new categories to the game. You are then presented with a list of twelve items, six of which fit the category and six which do not. You have sixty seconds to identify which are the correct six by clicking on the windows of your answers. When you’ve selected your six choices, hit the red button to see how many of your six you have correct. If you have less than six, you can change your answers but you must turn a window off before turning another one on. How well are you at downtown Fort Worth trivia?
